With a delightful dusting of holiday snow yesterday, the magic of the season seemed to be all around us here at Peeper Hollow Farm. As I went out to feed the sheep, I first noticed the excitement reflected in the eyes of our lambs, who had never experienced fluffy white flakes falling from the sky! They alternately gamboled through the paddocks, and stood in place, heads raised, looking at the softly falling crystals and marveling at this seemingly new environment. Even the adult ewes caught a bit of the joy as those who couldn’t resist the temptation nibbled a bit of snow off of their flock-mates’ backs as they waited for me to load fresh hay bales into their feeders. Odelia went from one ewe to the next, nibbling here, tasting there, looking like she was trying to decide which ewe had been lying in the perfect place to collect a deliciously snowy snack! The air was crisp and clean and the excitement among the flock was palpable as I moved from group to group trying to finish before the winter sun set.
We’ll be spending today with family, friends, and flock, and will be back with more about what is going on here at the farm on Wednesday. We wish all of our readers a very merry Christmas and a wonderful holiday season!
